4 Must-Try Breakfast Spots in Austin, Texas
First up on our list of breakfast spots in Austin is Josephine House; a cozy cottage restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day of the week (plus, brunch on Saturday and Sunday!) When the weather is nice, be sure to ask for a table on their outdoor patio. If the weather doesn’t permit an outdoor meal, which is very likely in Texas, their indoor space is perfectly designed and inviting. Here are a few of our breakfast favorites…
Egg Sandwich with scrambled eggs, chicken sausage, cheddar, aioli, and arugula
Nutella Morning Bun
*if you’re like us and need a cup of coffee in the morning, don’t miss out on their iced latte with Fronk’s Milk. It tastes like Christmas in a cup, which is especially delicious on a hot Austin day!
Cafe No Se
If you’re visiting Austin, it’s highly likely that South Congress is on your list of places to visit. We highly recommend going earlier in the day to beat the summer crowds, especially on the weekends. While you’re there, stop by Café No Se for a healthy (or not so healthy) breakfast or light lunch. They serve brunch every day from 7am to 3pm, so if you’re craving breakfast but don’t feel like getting out of bed until a little later, this is a great option for a late bite! Here are a few of our favorites…
Pain Perdu (French toast) with a cheesecake interior, raspberry jam, and berries
Café scramble with mushrooms, ricotta, spinach, and peppers
Elizabeth Street Cafe
Probably our favorite option on this list, Elizabeth Street Café has something for everyone. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Elizabeth Street is known for their French/Vietnamese fusion cuisine, which makes for an amazing breakfast! If you’re the type of person who typically likes savory food, this café serves up everything from Singapore noodles, to bahn mi sandwiches. On the other hand, if you love to start your morning off with sweet (we definitely belong in this category!), they serve delicious pastries and a nutella/banana stuffed crepe, which can’t be missed. If the weather is nice, enjoy your coffee and pastries on their patio, or if you’re in a hurry, drop in and pick it up. Here are a few of our favorites…
Nutella and banana stuffed crepe with hazelnuts
Beignets with strawberry guava jam
Chocolate bouchon (ask for it warm)
Located on the East side, you’ll find Hillside Farmacy, a restaurant with a unique theme and great atmosphere. They are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as brunch on the weekends. They can get a little busy, especially if the weather is nice and you’re trying to score a seat outside on a weekend. Hillside Farmacy is another perfect option for the person who doesn’t love a super sweet breakfast. Here are a few of our favorites…
Fried egg sandwich with avocado, fried green tomatoes, and aioli
Big Brekkie with eggs, bacon, home fries, toast, and greens
Mac and cheese (be sure to add a poach egg to make it even more amazing!)
* Once you’re done enjoying your meal, be sure to pop over to the shops next door. Take heart and Miranda Bennett are two awesome local boutiques. We have a hard time walking in without buying a little something!
