Canggu, Bali: The Lawn
I was initially hesitant to go to The Lawn, expecting just another one of those generic Bali establishments that thrives on Instagram culture. Boy, was I wrong. The place was pretty full when we walked in and our party of a dozen or so had to wait upstairs until a table cleared out for us. As soon as I walked up, Bintang in hand, and the ocean breeze blowing in, I thought to myself, this is the good life.
Of all the places in Bali, this was the one place that I kept coming back to. I’m usually one to try out different places as often as possible but this was truly my happy place. You’ve got everything you could want. Infinity pool? Check. Killer sunsets by the beach? Check. Incredible food and drinks? Yup. Live bands and a poppin’ dancefloor? Like I said, everything you could possibly hope for.
Located in Bali’s popular surfer village of Canggu, The Lawn gives you a taste of luxury that you could only dream of. As soon as I walked in, I immediately thought to myself about how much money I was likely to blow here. Luckily, I came on a Friday where happy hours meant that my eventual favorite drink, the coconut mojito, was buy-one-get-one free all evening.
Even the normal prices were not nearly as bad as one would imagine. The food is amazing and most meals were in the $7-10 range. The menu offers an international flare, ranging from local Indonesian dishes to nachos, pizza, and fish and chips that were some of the best I’ve ever had. I would have paid $10 just to catch a glimpse of the sunset from here. But nope, you don’t even have to pay to get in.
The live band plays some mellow vibes all night long until those coconut mojitos start taking their toll on you. Everyone huddles to the infinity pool or along Echo Beach to catch the stunning sunset before the dancefloor starts filling up. I don’t care what your scene is because The Lawn is the spot to be.
Even on a crowded day, The Lawn is a great spot to mellow out. The Lawn’s decor makes for an ambiance that has an air of simple, subtle extravagance. It doesn’t try too hard to be unique or make a statement. It knows all people need is good food, drinks, and a view of the beach to be happy so it does that and only that. It doesn’t need the “wow factor” of a giant tee-pee or extravagant wooden carvings or an amphitheatre of doors, no offense to those other Bali beach clubs.
It’s hard to make one-size-fits-all recommendations but The Lawn is as close to one as it gets. It appeals to all sorts of travelers, foodies, and anyone living their best life. There’s a reason why you’ll stumble into backpackers, families, and yes, even those Instagrammers while you’re here.
Don’t miss out on The Lawn while you’re in Bali.
